Daniel Fast

Why are we fasting?

During this season we are fasting and praying for breakthrough. We're praying for this breakthrough in our selves, in our homes, in our community, and in our church. We know that God is able to do everything He said He would do and we are uniting together during this period of prayer and fasting with this one purpose in mind.

For everyone who asks receives. and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
Matthew 7:8

We are seeking lives to be transformed. We are seeking bodies to be healed. We are seeking the lost to be saved. We are seeking believers to walk in full assurance of the victory that was secured for each one of us at the cross of Christ Jesus our Lord and Savior!

It is our sincere hope and prayer that as you join us on this journey of prayer and fasting that you will be richly blessed to the benefit of all that God has placed under your care. To God be the glory!!!

What is the Daniel Fast?

The Daniel Fast is based on the prophet Daniel’s fasting experiences as recorded in the Bible. The fast is a biblically based partial fast. Here are the verses in the Bible from which the “Daniel Fast” originated.

“Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink.” Daniel 1:12

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” Daniel 10: 1-2

Daniel had a need. He presented his iniquities to God. He denied his self of his flesh and God heard His cries. Daniel lived a lifestyle of fasting and prayer. In fact, many men of the Bible lived that kind of lifestyle, including Jesus.

According to Daniel 1, the results were: (v. 17) learning, skill, wisdom, spiritual understanding, favor, and better appearance! (v. 19) In Daniel 10, the fast resulted in answered prayer and spiritual insight. (vv. 11-12)

One of the great things about the Daniel Fast is that you are not limited to any specific amount of food, but rather to the kinds of food you can eat. You can customize it to fit your needs or for medical conditions. If you are on medications, consult your doctor since this diet may reduce and/or eliminate the need for some medications.

What should I expect on the Daniel Fast?

The first week may be difficult. When I started the fast, I had rough withdrawals from caffeine and sugar which caused headaches. Many people have a similar experience, but by all means lean into the grace of God to see you through this stage. In fact, I encourage you to pray before entering the fast that God may give you the grace to fast.

Pray that you are fasting because of God's grace and not man's pressure.

After you get through the initial revolt from your flesh, you will experience many positive changes. Speaking personally, my blood pressure moved to an excellent reading consistently, at levels I haven't seen since high school.
